Over the past 50 years, Fender has not reinvented the wheel in regards to the Jazz Bass. Only slight feature changes marked the era in which fans and players prefer. All versions are in one way or another remarkably great. The Fender Jazz Bass is distinctively known for its single coil sound as well as its slim taper 1 1/2” nut width. If you didn’t like the girth of the Precision Bass then you went with the Jazz, one of the most successful selling bass guitars ever.

 In Celebration of 5 decades of manufacturing the Fender Jazz Bass, Fender has introduced a 50th Anniversary model. Limited to 250 US made bass guitars.  A bass that includes every superior feature dating back to the day it was born in 1960. From every era, Fender picked the best features from every decade to enable the 50th Anniversary Superbass.

 Features

 A 1960 Jazz bass with an alder body was the start. All of the 250 bass guitars made are Candy Apple Red with a with a 3 ply white pickguard and matching painted headstock. Nitrocellulose Lacquer was used to enable the wood to breath. Lacquer was used for decades on all high quality guitars and basses and exclusively on the Jazz Bass.

In 1960 Fender introduced the Jazz Bass with chrome a chrome pickup cover and a F stamped bridge cover in which is used on this Anniversary model.

In 1961 Fender introduced a 3 control knob configuration from the previous 2 control knob. The 50th will include the 3 knob, volume, volume, master tone configuration.

In 1962 Fender offered the “C” neck which became the most popular and comfortable, also chosen for this bass.

From 1961 to 1964 the spaghetti Fender logo had 4 patent numbers from the previous 2 patent numbers, thus seen on this Anniversary model.

Pearl Block Inlay was introduced in 1966. Soon to be a favorite and used on this 50th.Anniversary model.

Medium Jumbo Frets used throughout the mid 60’s also on this bass.

The early 70’s brought the Jazz Bass a subtle change to the location of the bridge pickup. It was moved about a ½“  towards to the bridge to enhance its midrange tone.

The 60’s sported a finger rest mounted below the G string. Later in the 70’s the rest was mounted on above the E string resulting in the current thumb rest. Also on this bass.

The last decade brought us Posiflex support rods to better support the long neck.

High-Mass Vintage Bridge – a thicker steel plate and brass backstop to increase vibration.

Fender American Standard Hipshot tuning machines.

Rosewood fingerboard, 34” scale length, matching painted headstock, 45-105 string gauge and a  Fender Deluxe black hardshell case.

If you can find one of these, average selling price is around $2000.00
